As the author of the story, I have to know what all the characters are doing. Since I write in first person this becomes a problem because I know far more than the character who narrates it. Separating myself from the protagonist becomes a juggling act as I dole out information. Have I revealed enough or does it seem like the hero has leapt to an unwarranted conclusion? Have I revealed too much so the character comes off as a complete idiot? Do I succeed? Honestly, I’m never entirely sure even after others have given me their feedback. What one person sees as obvious another person completely overlooks. So how to I decide when I’ve hit the right balance? I pole my book club. :)
